Mr. Martin has been in
his current role as Managing Director and Head of BMO Financial Group in
Asia since 1996. He is General Manager of the Shanghai Branch
and is presently based in Shanghai.
Since joining Bank
of Montreal in 1980, Mr. Martin has held a variety of positions in international
banking. In 1981, he held the position of
Account Manager,
Financial Institutions at the Tokyo Branch in Japan. In 1984, he was appointed
Regional Manager, Financial Institutions and Governments at the Hong Kong
Branch; then, in 1987, he was appointed Senior Manager, Financial Institutions,
at
the Tokyo Branch. Mr. Martin received his first executive appointment in
1989 as Vice-President and Manager of the Seoul Branch, in South Korea.
In 1992,
he was appointed Managing Director of the bank’s relationships with
international financial institutions and governments in Europe, the Middle
East, Australia
and New Zealand.
Mr. Martin received his
BA in French literature from North Texas University in 1969, a diplôme
supérieur in Chinese language and civilization
from the University of Paris (Sorbonne) in 1976 and his MBA from the Wharton
School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1980. Mr. Martin studied at the
Taiwan Normal University’s Mandarin Center from 1976-78.
