MONTREAL,
March 13, 2009 – The Groupe d’action sur la persévérance
et la réussite scolaires, established by L. Jacques Ménard
and comprised of representatives from various fields, all of whom are mobilized
by the pressing need for action on the issue of student retention, will
release its report on Tuesday, March 17, at 10 a.m.
Titled Savoir
pour pouvoir : Entreprendre un chantier national pour la persévérance
scolaire, the report recommends a series
of concrete steps to enable Québec to join the provinces and countries
with the highest graduation rates.
The chair of the action group,
L. Jacques Ménard, together with
Michel Perron, research associate (ÉCOBES) at Cégep de
Jonquière and holder of the youth, health and community chair
at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, and Éric
Lamarre, managing director of the Montreal office of McKinsey & Company,
will take stock of the situation and answer media questions.
Several other members of the
action group will also be present, including Dr. Gilles Julien from
the Fondation pour la promotion de la pédiatrie
sociale, economist Pierre Fortin from UQAM, Michèle Thibodeau-Deguire
from Centraide of Greater Montreal and Paquerette Gagnon from the Fédération
des commissions scolaires du Québec.

Groupe d’action sur la persévérance et
la réussite scolaires
This action group is formed of 27 representatives from Québec
government departments, the business world and organizations and experts
working in student retention-related fields. The group aims to ensure
action is taken at the provincial and regional levels while relying heavily
on direct efforts at the local level in order to build on the initiatives
already under way in Québec.
